　　stair，stairs的用法区别

Stairs是一道楼梯;stair是“楼梯或阶梯的一级”，此字是英国英语British English;在美国和苏格兰，指楼梯或扶梯一级时，用step，不用stair。例：

She is walking down the stairs.

她正走下楼梯/楼梯的梯级。

stood on the top stair/step.

苏太太站在楼梯的最高一级。

表达“五级楼梯”、“十级楼梯”等意时，人们一般说five steps和ten steps，以免与stairs(整个楼梯)混淆一起，故不说five stairs或ten stairs。顺带一提，梯子(ladder)的踏级称为rung。

如果你听见有人说这么一句：

There is a spiral stair(a flight of spiral stairs/a spiral staircase)between the ground，flool and the first floor.

这里的stair和stairs又作何解释呢?从逻辑作出推理，这里的stair和a flight of stairs均作“整个楼梯”解，故可译为：“在一楼和二楼之间有一道螺旋形的楼梯”。

A flight of stairs和a pair of stairs同义并通用，但后者不及前者用得普遍。常用的还有a flight of steps。

Staircase和stairway都作“楼梯”解，前者通用于英国和美国，后者只用于美国。
